We offer compassionate abortion care through the second trimester (26 weeks) with personalized sedation plans. Additionlly, we offer a special fetal indications program for those facing genetic anomalies or maternal pregnancy complications.
We accept private insurance, Washington & Alaska Medicaid, and have a sliding fee scale.
Aspiration is the medical term for an abortion routinely used up to 13 weeks since your last menstrual period (LMP) and on some occasions up to 15 weeks LMP. It is performed in the clinic by a health care provider who specializes in abortion care and takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Sedation is an option for the aspiration procedure.
An aspiration appointment includes:
After the abortion, depending on the optional sedation you selected, you will recover within the clinic for about 20 minutes and then you will be discharged with aftercare instructions, medications to take the following week, along with a 24-hour number where you can reach us if you have any questions or concerns after the procedure. Patients who choose sedation during their procedure must have a driver. You may return to work or school the next day. We recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment within 2 to 4 weeks from your Aspiration Abortion procedure.

Special Note on Early Abortion, Late Abortion, Later Abortion, or Late-Term Abortion:
You may have seen abortion terms used like “early abortion,” “late abortion,” “later abortion,” or “late-term abortion” in the news. Unfortunately, these terms were thought up by anti-abortion extremists and have been picked up by the media. Cedar River Clinics intentionally avoids “early abortion,” “late abortion,” “later abortion,” or “late term abortion” because we feel the terms are judgmental. We proudly offer abortion care services during the first and second trimesters. You should be able to make health decisions that are best for you, your health, your family, and your life circumstances.
Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) is the medical procedure used for some abortions beyond 15 weeks LMP. Second-trimester abortion is legal and protected by Washington State Law called the Reproductive Privacy Act.
D&E involves a process that includes preparations to gradually, slowly dilate or open the cervix before the actual abortion. It is performed, in-clinic, by an expert health care provider who specializes in abortion care and may require appointments on 1 to 3 consecutive days depending on gestation and the provider’s discretion.
The first appointment day may last anywhere from 3 to 5 hours and includes:
Our providers will insert dilators into your cervix to allow for gentle expansion overnight. Opening the entrance to the uterus allows us to provide a simple and safe procedure. Depending on gestation, a second day of dilator inserts may be necessary or additional medications may be used to help soften and open the cervix. People who receive dilation are required to stay overnight within 30 minutes of the clinic.
Once the cervix is open, the dilators are removed, and the health care provider uses special instruments to evacuate (remove) the pregnancy, under ultrasound guidance, to ensure the entire uterus is empty. The evacuation procedure may last anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes.
After the procedure and depending on your gestation, you will recover in the clinic anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours. You will be discharged with aftercare instructions, and medications to be taken for the next week, along with a 24-hour number where you can reach us if you have any questions or concerns after the procedure. Patients who choose sedation must have a driver. We recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment within 2-4 weeks from your D&E procedure.
